Why I chose to do this cosplay:
I was invited by one of the organizers of the first-ever Geek Village to participate in the cosplay contest. Initially hesitant, I decided it would be a fun challenge, so I fully handmade this costume for the contest. I chose Kangel because I love her character, and after getting a specific ending in Needy Streamer Overload, I realized it would be a unique portrayal, especially since I hadn’t seen anyone cosplay this ending before.
How I made this cosplay:
I sewed the underdress and coat using a sewing machine. The heart was made from foam, coated with red, dark brown, and clear polish. I weathered the underdress and coat with tea. The wings were made from cardboard, covered with tape, and spray-painted white and gold. The underdress was also spray-painted gold where the heart would be pinned. The crown was store-bought, but I added extra pearls and fake roses. I styled the wig myself, adding powder to enhance the purple color and gluing on pearls. The pigtails were pre-made.
My thoughts on this cosplay:
I was nervous about entering my first cosplay competition, but the kind judges helped ease my nerves during prejudging. During the performance, things went wrong…
I walked off-stage when I was supposed to stay for pictures, as I didn’t know in advance and couldn’t hear the host due to adrenaline. My jacket also kept slipping off, and I felt like I was on autopilot. The other contestants were incredibly supportive, hyping each other up and sharing helpful tips. Though I didn’t win, the jury’s advice and meeting amazing people were highlights. This cosplay motivated me to craft more and improve for future competitions. It was an amazing learning experience.
